Dr. Dre Says He ‘Never Saw’ His Brain Aneurysm Coming & Urges Black Men To Regularly Check Health

Five months following his unexpected brain aneurysm, Dr. Dre is opening up about the incident, that he says he “never saw coming.” Also speaking on treatment, he urges Black men to regularly check their health.

As we reported, back on January 4 the legendary 56-year-old rapper and producer was rushed to the intensive care unit at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Hospital after suffering the health scare. The vey next day a post on his Instagram feed went up with him pictured in his studio at his mixing board. The caption assured fans that he was “doing great and getting excellent care from [his] medical team,” and due back home soon. Days later, on the 15th, he was discharged and would continue at-home treatment.

For the first time ever really speaking on the incident, Dre tells the Los Angeles Times“It’s a really weird thing. I’ve never had high blood pressure. And I’ve always been a person that has always taken care of my health. But there’s something that happens for some reason with black men and high blood pressure, and I never saw that coming. But I’m taking care of myself. And I think every Black man should just check that out and make sure things are OK with the blood pressure. And I’m going to move on and, hopefully, live a long and healthy life. I’m feeling fantastic.”
