Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial for allegedly falsifying business records to disguise a hush money payment to a porn star kicked off today.

The former president is currently facing 34 felony counts with each count carrying the maximum sentence of four years. Speaking to reporters outside the courtroom afterward, Trump blasted the case as a “scam” and slammed the judge.

“These are very complex things and he’s not going to allow us to go to that he won’t allow me to leave here for a half a day go to D.C. and go before the United States Supreme Court, because he thinks he’s superior,” Trump said. He also revealed that the judge won’t allow him to go to his son’s graduation.

As we previously reported, Former President Donald Trump was indicted in New York City in April of last year on criminal charges arising from alleged hush money paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to avoid a scandal ahead of the 2016 U.S. election.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, had arranged a payment of $130,000 to Daniels in exchange for her signing a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that prevented her from discussing the alleged affair publicly.

Daniels later filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the NDA, claiming that it was invalid because Trump himself had never signed it. The lawsuit also alleged that Cohen had defamed her by insinuating that she had lied about the affair.

The scandal surrounding the alleged affair and the hush money payment made headlines and raised questions about potential campaign finance violations, as the payment was made just weeks before the election. Cohen ultimately pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations related to the payment, stating that he had acted at the direction of Trump.

Now this isn’t the first time we have seen Trump in hot water. During his time in office, Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives, but was acquitted both times by the Senate. In 2018, Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations related to payments made to women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump. Cohen implicated Trump in the scheme, but Trump denied any wrongdoing.
