Donald Trump Slapped With Cease & Desist After Playlisting ‘In The Air Tonight’ By Phil Collins
Donald Trump is getting hit with another cease and desist from an artist, this time after he was busted playlisting the classic Phil Collins track “In The Air Tonight.” Earlier this month, Trump’s campaign played Collins’ hit song at POTUS’ Des Moines rally, and at many other rallies since, subsequently causing Collins to become outraged.
Since catching wind, Collins’ legal team fired off a cease and desist to Trump’s team, claiming the song choice comes off as if Collins endorses Trump — which he does not. The October 23-dated letter is the second sent to Trump’s team. The first was date June 24 and cited the use of “In the Air Tonight” being played at Trump’s June 20 rally in Tulsa, OK.

The latest letter reads, “We wrote you on June 24, 2020 demanding that the Trump campaign cease infringing the
musical copyright in the musical work “In the Air Tonight.” Another copy of our June 24, 2020 letter is attached. Our previous letter also noted that the campaign’s use of the work constituted an implied and false endorsement of Mr. Trump. It also noted Mr. Collin’s express and unequivocal statement that he wants no affiliation whatsoever with The President or the Trump campaign. We did not receive the courtesy of a response to our letter. Under the circumstances, we renew our demand for immediate assurances that the Trump campaign will permanently cease and desist from any further use of Mr. Collins’ name, performance and music at any future rallies or otherwise.”
