The official Trump campaign store is now pushing $50 red “Trump 2028” hats. Yes, 2028, even though U.S. presidents are only allowed to serve two terms. But that ain’t stopping Trump from keeping the energy alive — or from selling the dream on a baseball cap.
In fact, this bold product launch hit the streets not long after Trump hinted he’s dead serious about a third go at the Oval Office.
In a sit-down with NBC’s Kristen Welker back in March, Trump said point-blank he was “not joking” about a potential third term. He added that there were “methods which you could do it.”
And now, here we are. The hat’s real, the conversation is loud, and the speculation is heating up fast.
What Trump Actually Said About a Third Term
The merch might feel like a marketing stunt, but Trump’s been laying out what sounds like a calculated workaround.
One of the methods Trump mentioned? Having Vice President JD Vance lead the GOP ticket in 2028, then resign after taking office — allowing Trump to slide back into the presidency. According to reports, Trump floated this idea as a loophole to sneak back into power.
Let’s break this down: The 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is clear — “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” And it goes deeper. If someone served more than two years of another president’s term, they’re only allowed one more shot.
And there’s more. The 12th Amendment says if someone is “constitutionally ineligible” to be president, they can’t be vice president either. Which basically blocks the whole Trump-as-VP workaround.
Still, that ain’t stopping MAGA country from dreaming.
