WATCH: Donald Trump says he would be the ‘best women’s basketball coach in history’ because he would get LeBron James to transition and win every game
Recent comments made over the weekend by former President Donald Trump are rubbing sports fans the wrong way.
During his speech at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit in Tampa on Saturday, Trump suggested that legendary NBA player LeBron James could play basketball as a woman… Trump said, “If I were a basketball coach of the women’s team, I would be the greatest coach of all time.”
He added, “I’m not a fan of Lebron James at all… I don’t like him, but I’d say ‘LeBron, did you ever think of becoming a woman? Did you ever consider, because I’d like to have you on my team. I’d love to have you on our team, LeBron. But think of it, it’s so crazy what’s happening.” Trump made these wild comments/ joke while condemning the way transgender athletes can compete in women’s sports.
Now as bizarre as this all sounds, this is not the first time Trump has made such comments. Back in June 2021, he also suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers star could “get the operation” in order to compete in women’s sports, he said while speaking at the “Rally to Protect Our Elections.”
So What’s His Problem With LeBron?
Trump has been at odds with the basketball player for some time. Just last year, he called James “racist” after he responded to the police killing of Ohio teenager Ma’Khia Bryant in April.
“LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League,” Trump said in a statement reported by The Hill. “His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!” he said back in April.
All LeBron did at the time was share a photo of Nicholas Reardon, the police officer who killed Bryant in Columbus, with the caption: “you’re next #accountability.”
