Trump Claims He Stepped In When Newsom ‘Lost Control’
Donald Trump is back at it again… this time, going straight for California Governor Gavin Newsom’s neck. In another unfiltered post on Truth Social, the former president accused Newsom of losing grip on the protests erupting across Los Angeles and claimed he was the one who brought things under control.
Protests have raged across L.A. after federal agents were caught conducting workplace raids as part of the Biden-era ICE mandates that Trump strongly supports. According to Trump, the protests got so heated that Newsom “totally lost control of the situation.”
“Los Angeles was safe and sound for the last two nights. Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job. They all worked well together, but without the Military, Los Angeles would be a crime scene like we haven’t seen in years,” Trump posted.
He didn’t stop there. Trump threw another jab, saying,
“Governor Gaven NewScum had totally lost control of the situation. He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence!!!”
This ain’t Trump’s first time publicly clashing with Newsom. Over the past few days, Trump has been turning up the pressure, accusing the governor of being too scared to act when the heat got turned up.
Newsom Responds: “They Must Be Stopped, Immediately”
Governor Newsom, who has never been shy about clapping back, responded with a bold legal filing aimed at limiting the federal presence in California. His motion calls out Trump’s tactics as dangerous and damaging, especially to communities of color and undocumented residents in Los Angeles.
“Federal antagonization, through the presence of soldiers in the streets, has already caused real and irreparable damage to the City of Los Angeles, the people who live there, and the State of California. They must be stopped, immediately,” Newsom’s statement reads.
L.A., known for having the largest undocumented population in the nation—nearly a million strong—erupted in protest after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were seen raiding businesses, detaining workers, and intimidating residents. The people had enough.
Trump, however, is doubling down. Earlier this week he said, “The National Guard will remain in place until there is no danger.”
L.A. Community Reacts as Tensions Rise Over Immigration Raids
The recent protests highlight how deeply immigration crackdowns hit communities in L.A. The city has long been a safe haven for immigrants, many of whom work, raise families, and live in fear of being torn away from their lives without warning.
As military personnel and National Guard units patrolled the streets, residents described the scenes as “surreal,” saying it felt more like a war zone than a peaceful protest zone. Social media flooded with videos showing armored vehicles, helicopters, and federal agents in riot gear moving through neighborhoods.
Despite Trump’s claim of “restoring order,” local leaders and civil rights organizations argue the federal response has only fueled more fear and division. And while things may seem a little quieter now, many say it’s only the calm before the next political storm.
This Political Beef Ain’t Cooling Off Anytime Soon
On the flip side, Newsom’s latest filings show he’s not backing down either. Instead of playing defense, he’s leaning in with legal muscle, pushing back against what he calls an unlawful abuse of federal power.
