Following reports that former President Donald Trump plans to announce his 2024 presidential bid as early this summer, sources tell Rolling Stone that if the 76-year-old gets elected, he’ll also want to dismiss any possible criminal charges coming his way. As per the publication, Trump is said to have told his advisors that the legal protections of occupying the Oval Office “are front-of-mind for him.”
He has “spoken about how when you are the president of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to ‘get to you,” one source expressed, while another continued that the father of five “says when [not if] he is president again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges — or even put him and his people in prison.”
The report comes just days after the tragic death of Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, who died from blunt force injuries to her torso from falling down the stairs at her Manhattan home last week. As previously reported, Ivana, the mother of Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Trump Jr., endured “blunt impact trauma,” with the manner of her death being ruled an accident, a spokesperson for New York’s Chief Medical Examiner said.
“Having released this determination, OCME will not comment further on the investigation,” they said. Toxicology reports regarding what Ivana was up to and what may have happened prior to her fall have not yet been revealed but are expected in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Giuliano Zuliani, the owner of the restaurant Ivana had frequently visited, as recent as earlier this month, has since told PEOPLE that when he last saw her, she didn’t appear to be in a good state. “She was in bad shape. She could barely walk. She didn’t eat her food, she took it home with her,” he said.
In a statement made by the family following Ivana’s death, they said, “Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion, and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children, and ten grandchildren.”

In a statement of his own, Donald paid tribute to his ex, writing, “I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City,
His son Eric continued by telling Daily Mail, “Our mother was an incredible woman – a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination.”
