Donald Trump Lied About Throwing Yankees First Pitch, Team Never Invited Him

Within the past week, we reported that President Donald Trump backed out of throwing the first pitch at a New York Yankees game next month, citing a busy schedule. Now, it turns out that Trump lied about the pitch, as the team never invited him to do so.

Trump told reporters on Thursday, “Randy Levine is a great friend of mine from the Yankees. And he asked me to throw out the first pitch, and I think I’m doing that on 15 August at Yankee Stadium.” However, The New York Times reports POTUS never received an official invite on that day by the Yankees.

Reportedly, Trump directed his aides to call officials and lock in a longstanding offer from Levine to throw the first pitch, but a date was never finalized. Sources close to the president say he most likely lied about the event in reaction to the attention Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, received after he accepted his own offer to throw the first ceremonial pitch for the Washington Nationals.
