Donald Trump is currently facing scrutiny for his controversial history, although he considers his accomplishments to be noteworthy, even likening himself to a renowned former U.S. president.

Trump participated in a Q&A session with three journalists at the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention in Chicago on Wednesday morning. The event took place in a crowded ballroom with numerous convention attendees present.

Immediately, Trump faced inquiries about his perceived racist comments and past connections with White Supremacists. The President expressed his disapproval of the questioning, labeling the introduction as “rude” and alleging that the NABJ had deceived him about the purpose of his appearance.

In an effort to dodge the question, Trump redirected the conversation to his delayed arrival on stage and criticized the NABJ for technical issues. When pushed for a clear answer about his past, Trump confidently asserted that he has been the most beneficial president for the Black community since Abraham Lincoln, emphasizing Lincoln’s role in abolishing slavery.

Trump also criticized his political opponent Kamala Harris, alleging that she falsely portrayed herself as Black to advance her career. He stated, “She was Indian all the way and all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black woman.”

He also appeared to address the backlash from his previous statement about “Black jobs” during a presidential debate in June, clarifying that a “Black job” refers to any job held by a Black individual. However, the audience’s reaction was mixed, with some chuckles heard in response. Trump had faced criticism for his earlier remarks insinuating that illegal immigrants were taking “Black jobs” by crossing the border, perpetuating stereotypes about job availability for Black Americans.
