Donald Trump has confirmed that he will take on Kamala Harris in a debate on September 4.

The Republican presidential candidate shared a message on his Truth Social platform on Friday night, stating his desire to have a televised debate with Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania that will be broadcasted on Fox News. “Rules will be similar to the rules of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience,” Trump said, referring to President Joe Biden, who has since dropped his reelection bid.

Following Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race on July 21 and his endorsement of Kamala Harris, Donald Trump initially stated that he would not debate her as she was not the official candidate. However, on Friday, Harris received the delegate votes necessary to officially secure the Democratic nomination.

The ex-Republican president mentioned that the location for the debate on Fox News had not yet been finalized. However, he confirmed that the moderators would be Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum from Fox News. The format and rules for the debate would be similar to his previous debate with Biden on June 27, with the addition of a studio audience.

However, on Saturday, Harris’s campaign released a statement indicating that she did not agree to the conditions of the suggested Fox News debate. The statement referenced Trump’s earlier willingness to debate Biden at any time or location. Harris specifically opposed using the Fox News debate as a substitute for the ABC debate.

“Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out,” Harris’ campaign said in a statement. “He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on [10 September]. The vice-president will be there one way or the other to take the opportunity to speak to a prime-time national audience. We’re happy to discuss further debates after the one both campaigns have already agreed to. Mr Anytime, anywhere, anyplace should have no problem with that unless he’s too scared to show up on the 10th.”
