Disneyland Closing Through End Of March Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Everyone’s favorite amusement park Disneyland is closing its doors until the end of March, this as the coronavirus outbreak grows from an epidemic to a newly-categorized pandemic.

The California theme park is temporarily closing starting Saturday, March 14 through the end of the month. However, the Disneyland Resort hotels will remain open until Monday, March 16, allowing guests to make necessary travel accommodations.

This is the fourth time in history that the Anaheim park has fully suspended its operations. Other instances included the September 11 attacks in 2001, the morning after JFK’s assassination in 1963, and the Northridge earthquake in 1994. Meanwhile, Orlando, Florida’s Walt Disney World remains open, for now.

Additionally, a spokesperson for the park wholly states:

“While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California’s executive order and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month. The Hotels of Disneyland Resort will remain open until Monday, March 16 to give guests the ability to make necessary travel arrangements; Downtown Disney will remain open. We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies. Disney will continue to pay cast members during this time.

Disneyland Resort will work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period. Please contact The Walt Disney Travel Company for questions and cancellations at 714-520-5050.”

The announcement also arrives after California Gov. Gavin Newsom placed Los Angeles into a state of emergency on Wednesday (Mar 11). It calls for any gatherings with more than 250 people be canceled or delayed in an effort to halt the transmission of the novel virus.
