Diddy’s federal criminal sex trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering (RICO) case has suddenly been assigned a new judge, who will also be deciding on his third bid for bond.

On Thursday (October 3), a notice in the court docket indicated that Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex trafficking case was assigned to Judge Arun Subramanian, who was first nominated by President Joe Biden in 2022 and took the bench in 2023.
Subramanian has spent most of his career as a civil litigator at the law firm Susman Godfrey. Prior to that position, Subramanian worked as a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Judge Arun Subramanian is also the same Manhattan federal judge overseeing the Department of Justice’s antitrust case against Ticketmaster.
Subramanian has been presiding over the Ticketmaster civil lawsuit since the DOJ first sued to break up the ticketing giant in May 2024. Now, according to court documents filed on Thursday, Judge Arun Subramanian has now been assigned to Diddy’s federal criminal sex trafficking case.
According to CNN, the move was sudden and was made without any explanation shared publicly. Diddy’s case was first randomly assigned to Judge Andrew L. Carter, Jr., who was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2011. Carter notably denied Diddy bond two times since being arrested and arraigned on September 16 and 17.

During his arraignment, Diddy was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Carter ordered the now-disgraced mogul to be detained in jail, at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, until his federal criminal sex trafficking, prostitution, and racketeering trial begins.
In court, Carter said that he could not find any conditions that would allow him to comfortably release Diddy in light of the allegations of witness tampering and physical violence. Diddy has since appealed the second bond denial, and it is reported that his newly assigned judge, Arun Subramanian, will be the justice to rule on his third bid for bond.
