Diddy is the latest celebrity to weigh in on all the controversy surrounding Kanye West.
The rap star and designer has been making tons of headlines after wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt at his Yeezy Season 9 fashion show in Paris. Despite the immediate backlash, he doubled down on his stunt saying, “EVERYONE KNOWS THAT BLACK LIVES MATTER WAS A SCAM NOW ITS OVER YOU’RE WELCOME.”
While appearing on the @BreakfastClub, Diddy shared his honest thoughts on Ye and his bold move. Here’s what the business mogul had to say:
“My boy is a super free thinker and a lot of times what he means is misconstrued.” Diddy went on to say, “I’m not making excuses I’m just saying that if he did it like that, that’s the way he thinks.” He continued, “I understand that White lives do matter but it’s not that. That was our slogan. That wasn’t our slogan to go share with nobody else. So that’s the only message… we don’t have to condemn Kanye or cancel him; we don’t have to go crazy. But at the same time you got to understand your actions.”
Other stars like Gigi Hadid, Jodie Turner-Smith, Jaden Smith and more have called Ye out. The mother of Ahmaud Arbery, the young Black man who was murdered by three White men while jogging, also released an important statement on Ye’s stunt. She said through her attorney:
“Everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a scam now it’s over you’re welcome.” Hitting back at his remarks, Wanda Cooper-Jones tells Rolling Stone in a statement through her attorney that West’s actions were ultimately disappointing. Her attorney Lee Merritt said “As a result of his display ‘White Lives Matter’ started trending in the U.S., which would direct support and legitimize extremist behavior, [much] like the behavior that took the life of her son,” Cooper-Jones relayed through Merritt. “That is the thing that Wanda and families like hers continue to fight against,” Jones added on her behalf,
“This mockery of the Black Lives Matter movement and his now denunciation of the movement as some sort of hoax flies directly in the face [of what he’s said,]” the statement added. “It’s confusing for her, it’s confusing for the families to receive his support privately, but publicly to set us all back.”
This is not Ye’s first time making controversial statements. As we previously reported in 2018, he showed big support tk Donald Trump by wearing the campaign’s red ‘Make America Great Again’ hat many time. He also endorsed Owens on Twitter. In April 2018 he even claimed, “When you hear about slavery for 400 years… for 400 years? That sounds like a choice.”
West ended up apologizing for both his comments around slavery and his choice to wear the MAGA hat: “I have never really approached or addressed the slavery comment fully. And it’s not something for me to overly intellectualise. This is something about the fact that it hurt people’s feelings and the way that I presented that piece of information,” he said while speaking to Chicago radio station 107.5 WGCI.
“I don’t know if I properly apologized for how the slavery comment made people feel,” he continued. “I’m sorry for the one-two effect of the MAGA hat into the slave comment, and I’m sorry for people that felt let down by that moment.”
Not clear if Ye plans to apologize for his latest move that has gotten everyone rilled up yet again. In the meantime, check out Diddy’s interview below:
