Devin Haney Calls For ‘Fair’ Rematch With Ryan Garcia After Loss

Devin Haney is keeping his head high following his loss to Ryan Garcia. The boxing star has since released a statement following Saturday night’s game in New York and now he’s eyeing a rematch.

The boxing star took to Instagram on Thursday and posted a lengthy caption where he directly talked about their recent bout that ended in controversy due to Garcia missing weight. Despite Garcia’s victory, Haney believes that the extra weight may have influenced the outcome of the fight. Haney expressed his desire to square up again but under fair conditions and within an agreed weight limit.

He began his lengthy statement by saying, “First off I wanna say… Alhamdulillah Allah is the perfect planner and I trust his plan no matter what. I came up short but this boxing, and if anyone knows me they know that I am a true competitor, and always wanted to test my skills against the best fighters in the world.”

Acknowledging his defeat graciously, Haney emphasized then went on t say, “Ryan, despite the circumstances, was victorious that night and that’s fine. I do feel like weight played a role in it but only Allah knows. I would love to run it back and give the fans a FAIR fight within an agreed weight.”

As we previously reported, Garcia dropped Haney three times before securing a majority-decision win in Brooklyn on Saturday (20 April). It was Haney’s first professional loss. However, Garcia, 25 failed to take Haney, also 25, his WBC super-lightweight title.

Meanwhile, Garcia, who has been vocal about his future plans, calling out several potential opponents. Notably, Garcia has set his sights on fighters like Conor Benn, Errol Spence Jr, Sean O’Malley, and Gervonta Davis, the latter of whom handed Garcia his first defeat with a decisive body shot last year.

As Haney looks ahead to his next steps after Ramadan, fans eagerly await the possibility of a rematch between the two talented boxers, hoping for a fair and thrilling showdown in the ring.
