On Saturday (June 15), Donald Trump visited Detroit, Michigan’s 180 Church in an attempt to poach Black voters from President Joe Biden in this year’s election. Trump told the audience, “I knew I should be here. I’m honored to be in Detroit.”

During the roundtable, Trump reportedly spoke for about 20 minutes, covering several political topics that he has repeatedly addressed during his 2024 presidential campaign (ie: Biden’s handling of the U.S.-Mexico border and his disdain for electric vehicles).

Trump also pitched himself to the room full of hundreds of potential Black voters after only receiving 5% of the vote during the 2020 election. Trump told the audience that he would break up the crime in the city, improve the country’s economic outlook, and simply do more for Black Americans, more than what Biden has.

Trump told the audience, “The crime is most rampant right here and in African American communities. More people see me, and they say, ‘Sir, we want protection, we want the police to protect us.'”

After his speech, Trump welcomed a 20-minute roundtable discussion with small business owners and other community leaders and members. The roundtable was moderated by Republican and Florida Congressman Byron Donalds.

During this portion of the event, Lorenzo Sewell, the senior pastor at 180 Church, said he was “so humbled” by Trump’s visit. He added, “President Obama never came to ‘the hood,’ so to speak. President Biden, he went to the big NAACP dinner, but he never came to ‘the hood.’ So, thank you.” Trump replied, “Thank you, Pastor. Thank you. It’s my honor.”

Familiar names were also in at Donald Trump’s community roundatable, like rappers Sada Baby, Icewear Vezzo, and Peezy.

Icewear Vezzo shared a few photos of himself, Peezy, and Trump and captioned the post, “Told Donald I Made the 6 great again @realdonaldtrump. But naw in all seriousness everyone not gonna agree with this picture but we don’t all have to agree on everything I just know not many of us will ever have the chance to really speak up for us and address how we may really feel so I stepped out on faith I didn’t meet him as a rapper I met him as a man and a father who understands the only way to attempt change things is to address things.”

Sharing the same photo to his page, Peezy wrote, “I Told @realdonaldtrump If We Can Bring The ACT BACK We Can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN 🇺🇸 🤷🏾‍♂️ And I Got Trump Coming To @sloppy_crab TONIGHT WE LIT 😎.” Meanwhile, Sada Baby shared a quick clip to his Instagram and simply wrote, “Sh*t was kool🦍 .”
