Derek Chauvin’s Defense Team Claims George Floyd Died From Drug Overdose During Trial

Derek Chauvin’s defense team is continuing to push the narrative that George Floyd died from a drug overdose as opposed to the excessive force applied to his neck by Chauvin.

Per TMZ, in a clip from FOX News, Lawyer Eric Nelson told the jury that there is alleged evidence and video that shows Floyd going to a market shortly before the police arrived. He says employees at the market claimed that Floyd was under the influence and “drunk.”

He claims that when Floyd was confronted by the officers, he “put drugs in his mouth” to hide them. He adds that the autopsy discovered”speedball” in his system.

Chauvin’s lawyer claims the force and use of knee was necessary as Chauvin was half Floyd’s weight and Floyd was resisting.

As we reported, Chauvin’s attorney previously filed a motion in court stating there was no probable cause to support the murder and second-degree manslaughter charges. The documentation claimed the fentanyl in George Floyd’s system caused his death instead of the prolonged pressure from Chauvin kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes. Additionally,  it stated several pre-existing conditions contributed to his death.

‘If [Mr. Floyd] was found dead at home alone and no other apparent causes, it would have been acceptable to label his death an overdose.”

We will keep you updated as the trial continues.
