Chauvin appeared for a virtual hearing on Thursday since he is currently serving time at a maximum-security prison and pleaded not guilty to violating a Black male teen’s rights during an arrest in 2017. According to a police report from that year, Chauvin reportedly hit the 14-year-old boy with a flashlight then kneeled on his neck and back while the teen was handcuffed, causing him to bleed from the ears. The former police officer accused the teen of resisting arrest.

Earlier this year, Chauvin was convicted of killing George Floyd and used the same technique that resulted in Floyd’s death.
