After 10 hours of deliberation, the jury has reached a unanimous vote in the case of George Floyd’s murder. Derek Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. After the verdict, Chauvin’s bail was revoked and he will be placed back in jail until his sentencing in eight weeks. The maximum sentence for second-degree unintentional murder is 40 years in prison.
The decision comes after multiple witnesses testified in court about the moments before and after George Floyd’s death along with medical experts breaking down what happened during those nine minutes as Chauvin kneeled on his neck.
