Denzel Washington Reportedly Avoided Kissing Julia Roberts In Film To Avoid Upsetting Black Female Fans

Denzel Washington is no doubt one of the most talented actors of our time, and he’s pretty unproblematic!

Denzel is a happily married man, and the only other woman to even get slightly close to him Is actress Julia Roberts, who co-starred alongside him in their 1993 film, “The Pelican Brief.”

Despite the initial scenes of the movie depicting Washington and Roberts kissing, the actor had them removed in order to not upset his fanbsse, particularly black women. As explained on Raiders Of The Lost podcast, Denzel didn’t want to recieve backlash from his loyal fans.

In an interview with Newsweek in 2002, Roberts addressed the non-existent kiss,

I have taken so much s**t over the years about not kissing Denzel in that film. Don’t I have a pulse? Of course I wanted to kiss Denzel. It was his idea to take the damn scenes out.”

Washington reportedly received a bad reaction with another movie and told Newsweek,

“Black women are not often seen as objects of desire on film,” Washington told Newsweek. “They have always been my core audience.”
