How their friendship began after meeting on the set of Disney’s Camp Rock
The former Disney stars met while Lovato was dating Joe Jonas during their on-and-off-again relationship. The pair dated from 2008 to 2010, but Demi remained friends with Nick after the break-up and maintained the friendship for six years. During a 2016 interview with Billboard, Jonas revealed they wrote songs together and added that they didn’t have any romantic feelings for each other.
“Well, for a couple of years there was the Joe and Demi romantic thing, so I’d be this emotional bridge for them. But she and I were productive — we’d write songs about it. We became even closer because it was never going to be [romantic].”

Demi and Nick were often spotted together in public areas and events, plus did a joint tour, the Future Now Tour, in 2016. However, fans noticed a change in their friendship within the following year.

There was speculation among fans that the former besties had a falling out. Their suspicions reached a new level after Lovato released her 2017 album, Tell Me You Love Me, which featured the track “Ruin The Friendship.” People assumed the song was about Nick Jonas, but Lovato didn’t confirm nor deny the speculation during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

In 2018, Jonas offered his support to Lovato after she suffered from an apparent drug overdose.

Lovato was not in attendance at Jonas’ wedding ceremony with Priyanka Chopra, which made fans unofficially confirm that the friendship was over. During this period, Lovato also unfollowed many celebrity friends who could be considered a clean slate for some people.
Fans also speculated Jonas’ marriage might have split the former friends apart, but that may not be the case.
Despite going on different paths in their lives, Jonas and Lovato haven’t spoken about their friendship split. In 2021, fans rejoiced when Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato took a photo at a Halloween house party. The last time the former couple was spotted together was at a Vanity Fair party with Nick Jonas in 2017.
Meanwhile, Nick Jonas and his wife Priyanka Chopra celebrated the birth of their daughter Malti Marie. The couple said she is doing fantastic after spending 100 days in the NICU.
“It is certainly life-changing. [Malti] is amazing. It brings me a lot of joy,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
