James “Buster” Corley, the co-founder of Dave and Buster’s, has reportedly died in an apparent suicide. He was 72.

As per TMZ, Dallas police responded to a call on Monday, Corley’s birthday, and encountered a man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Corley was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. A representative for Dave and Buster’s told the outlet in a statement that Corley had a passion for hospitality and a deep concern for his team members.
Corley and his business partner David Corriveau opened the first Dave & Buster’s restaurant in Dallas in 1982. Following its success, the company opened more than 140 locations nationwide, combining restaurant food with arcade games. Before launching the successful franchise, Corley launched a bar in Little Rock, Arkansas next to Corriveau’s lounge and arcade called “Buster’s.”

After learning the news of the co-founder’s death, social media users expressed their condolences and said it is important to reach out to loved ones who may be dealing with mental health issues. One user wrote, “Another tragedy passing due to suicide. It never stops being awful, and it’s never too late to reach out to anyone.” Additionally, there was speculation about the circumstances surrounding his death but no further details were confirmed.
Corley’s business partner, Corriveau, died in 2015 at the age of 63.
