The organization said in a statement that Frazier has won an honorary Pulitzer Prize for special citation and wrote, “For courageously recording the murder of George Floyd, a video that spurred protests against police brutality around the world, highlighting the crucial role of citizens in journalists’ quest for truth and justice.” At 17-years-old, Frazer recorded the arrest and murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25, 2020.

Her video clip was an important piece of evidence during the trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin which led to his conviction of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter. She mentioned during the trial that she wishes could have done more to help Floyd.

“It’s been nights I stayed up, apologizing and apologizing to George Floyd for not doing more, and not physically interacting and not saving his life, but it’s like, it’s not what I should’ve done, it’s what he should’ve done.”
