Socialites, get into this: A wild and tragic situation involving a man who, according to sources, had deep ties to local law enforcement circles, and even worked security for a sitting member of Congress.

The man shot and killed by Dallas police during a tense standoff earlier this week has now been identified by sources as 39-year-old Diamon-Mazairre Robinson. But a lot of people around North Texas didn’t know him by that name.

Out there, many folks knew him as “Mike King.” And the deeper investigators dig, the more complicated the story gets.

So what the heck happened? Police say the situation unfolded Wednesday night when Robinson tried to run from officers. According to authorities, he ended up inside a hospital parking garage where things escalated fast. Investigators say Robinson barricaded himself inside a vehicle. SWAT teams eventually used tear gas to force him out. That’s when police say he pulled a gun on officers. That moment ended the standoff.

What’s surprising a lot of people is just how familiar Robinson allegedly was in law enforcement spaces. Sources told CBS News Texas he had been part of the security detail for U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, both while she was in office and during her recent U.S. Senate campaign!

At the same time, Robinson had also been running a company called Off Duty Police Services, which helped place officers in off-duty security jobs around North Texas. Several officers told reporters they knew Robinson only as Mike King.

And according to those sources, Robinson claimed he was a detective with U.S. Capitol Police. But that claim may have triggered something bigger.

Sources say Robinson was the subject of a federal investigation and was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Now, on top of that, records show Robinson had seven arrests for theft across multiple departments, including Dallas, Duncanville, Irving, Dallas County and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

While it’s unclear how he was able to get jobs including the one we had with Crockett, sources add that Robinson was able to reinvent himself under the alias Mike King.

To make matters worse, law enforcement sources say Robinson drove a replica undercover police vehicle and used license plates stolen from cars outside a military recruiting office. Authorities also say he was promoting security work, advertising jobs paying $90 an hour.

Rep. Crockett’s staff told the news outlet that they’re waiting for more details before responding to questions about Robinson.
