A sheriff stated no charges will be filed against the South Carolina father whose 20-month-old boys passed away from being left in a hot car after he forgot to take them to daycare and left them in his car because he was under serious stress from work.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said, when he went back and watched the investigators interview, after being in law enforcement for 46 years he has never seen a father be so heartbroken.

“He didn’t mean to do it. God, he didn’t mean to do it. He’s got to live with that the rest of his life,” Lott shared at a Tuesday news press.

According USAtoday, the man seen his sons dead still strapped in their car seats on Sept. 1 after he drove to the daycare in Blythewood and was told the children were not there, investigators stated.

Bryson and Brayden McDaniel cause of death was from exposure to the heat as temperatures inside the car got up to 120 degrees.

According to the sheriff, the father works at a manufacturing plant and was really stressed about what has been going on at his job lately.

“The father was under some intense pressure at work that really had his mind somewhere else that day. In his mind, he really believed he dropped the two boys off at day care,” Lott shared.

“The pure emotion that came out was not something you could fake, everybody that was involved in this case has been touched by it. The Coroner’s Office, the EMS workers, the dispatchers, our deputies have all went through counseling,” Lott concluded.
