D.C. Mayor Names Street Near White House ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza’
Just moments after D.C. revealed the “Black Lives Matter mural painted along the street that leads to the White House, Mayor Muriel Bowser unveiled the new street name: “Black Lives Matter Plaza” which is also near the White House.
According to Fox News, it’s a tribute to the protesters who spent days marching down the street to protest against racism and police brutality in wake of the recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

“We want to call attention today to making sure our nation is more fair and more just and that black lives and black humanity matter in our nation.” – @MayorBowser. “The section of 16th street in front of the White House is now officially ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza,'” she tweeted.
From her personal account, Bowser also tweeted a video of “BLACK LIVES MATTER” painted in giant yellow letters on the street near the White House.
