COVID-19 Kills Pregnant Nurse, Newborn Survives After Emergency C-Section

After her coronavirus (COVID-19) condition worsened, a pregnant nurse in London was rushed into surgery for an emergency c-section to save her newborn — who’s now doing “very well.”

But, sadly, just a few days after having said cesarean, 28-year-old Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong passed away on Sunday (Apr 12). The beloved healthcare professional, who worked with the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital for five years, was diagnosed on April 5, and admitted two days later for worsened symptoms.

David Carter, CEO of Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, shared, “Mary worked here for five years and was a highly valued and loved member of our team, a fantastic nurse and a great example of what we stand for in this Trust. She tested positive for Covid-19 after being tested on 5th of April and was admitted to the hospital on the 7th April. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mary’s family and friends at this sad time. We ask that the family’s privacy is respected at this time.”

Since her passing, a GoFundMe has been set up to support Agyapong’s husband and baby girl.

Matt Hancock, UK Health Secretary, confirms that at least 27 National Health Service (NHS) workers  have now passed from the novel virus.
