COVID-19 Infections At The University Of Alabama Rise To More Than 1,300 Since Classes Started
Since classes started, COVID-19 infections at the University of Alabama have rose to more than 1,300. Earlier this week, we reported that the school tallied over 500 confirmed cases, and by the end of this week, rounding out the month, the school now has over 1,300 students testing positive for the novel virus.
Classes at the campus resumed about two weeks ago, with nearly 30,000 new and returning students. The discovery and all tracking has been sent to the university’s own online “COVID-19 Dashboard,” which breaks down the testing batches: 1/1-8/18: 305 cases; 8/19-8/24: 571 cases; 8/25-8/27: 492 cases, totaling 1,368 cases on campus.

Since reporting the positive cases, University President Stuart R. Bell has addressed the “unacceptable” rise in cases in a letter to faculty, staff and students on August 23, after the school reported over 500 cases, and rising. In his statement, Bell shares, “The solution is proven: testing, mask wearing, social distancing, personal hygiene and compliance with crowd size limits are all that are asked as we work together to complete the semester together.Violations to our health and safety protocols, both on and off campus, are subject to harsh disciplinary action, up to and including suspension from UA.”
