The number of COVID-19 deaths has reached more than 500,000 in the United States as of Sunday.

Currently, the death toll in the United States is the highest in the world and the rate is higher than the population in Atlanta and Sacramento, California as reported by NBC News. There are more than 28,206,000 cases in the country but the daily number of cases has decreased below 100,000.
Although vaccine distribution has started within the past few weeks, scientists said the high number of deaths is contributed to the highly contagious variants of the virus,
