The unidentified couple celebrated their gender reveal at the Queima Pé river last Sunday, September 25. During the party, the waterfall turned blue, and the couple set off blue-colored smoke bombs. Videos and images of the party went viral on social media, leading the couple to face backlash and accusations of causing environmental damage. The Quima Pé river is the primary water source for the city of Tangará da Serra in Mato Grossa.

In a statement, the Secretary of State for the Environment in Mato Grasso said they would investigate and determine if the couple used chemicals to dye the waterfall. The person responsible for the party claims no chemicals were used during the event.

“Sema-MT will notify the owners of the area so that they can inform who were responsible and will determine if there was environmental damage, depending on the material released into the water. A team composed of two servers from Sema-MT and four servers from the Secretary of the Municipality of Tangará da Serra are on site and nearby investigating the complaint.
The Inspection teams of the Municipal Department of the Environment, together with the inspection of the State Department of the Environment (SEMA) were at the scene of the action and are processing all the information that was collected, both with the parties involved and the environmental data.”
Social media reacts to the gender reveal and wants these celebrations to be simplified again.
As previously reported, a gender reveal party in California resulted in a wildfire that destroyed 7,000 acres of forest and mass evacuations. Another gender reveal resulted in a plane crash in Texas. Due to the extreme gender reveals, people just want the celebration to be simplified again, where a cake or a balloon reveals the gender.
Whatever happened to just popping a ballon for gender reveal parties??? These days people are starting deadly wildfires and contaminating waterfalls.

Out of control and ridiculous. Turned a gender reveal party which is an issue within itself into an environmental justice issue. 😒 why would you dye an entire waterfall and not stop and question like hmmm is this a good idea? https://t.co/VlPuhtkfwo
