During the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade, a moment of terror was met with bravery as Trey Filter and his wife Casey played pivotal roles in apprehending one of the alleged shooters amidst the chaos. Trey recounted the harrowing experience to The New York Post, highlighting the critical seconds where he had to act without hesitation, hoping he had identified the correct target. His actions were captured in a video that has since gone viral, showing him stopping the suspect from escaping into the crowd. Despite the suspect momentarily breaking free, a second quick-thinking Chiefs fan joined Trey, and together, they managed to subdue the alleged shooter.

“I don’t know if I knocked him out when I tackled him or what, but I had him squeezed so hard he might have been passed out all the time for all I know. I just started racking him in his ribs,” he explained.

Amid the struggle, Casey Filter courageously seized the firearm dropped by the suspect, believed by Trey to be an AK-47, though the police have not confirmed this. Trey described the intense moments of the takedown, emphasizing his physical effort to ensure the suspect was immobilized, all while unaware that his wife had already secured the weapon. The actions of the Filters and the unnamed Chiefs fan culminated in the suspect’s arrest by the police, who arrived on the scene swiftly.

The community’s applause for Trey’s bravery was a brief moment of unity in the aftermath of the shocking event. Yet, for Trey, the priority was his family’s safety, leading to a quick departure from the scene with his wife and their two sons, aged 12 and 15. The gravity of the situation only became apparent to the Filter family during their drive back home to Wichita. The shooting had claimed the life of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother of two, and injured many, including nine children. Initially mistaking the gunshots for firecrackers, Trey and his family were struck by the reality of the danger they faced.

Reflecting on the day’s events, Trey modestly shifted praise towards the fellow fan who assisted in the takedown and expressed immense pride in his wife’s courageous actions. The Filters’ day began as a celebration of their favorite team, with no anticipation of the heroism they would display. Despite the tragic circumstances, their quick actions prevented further violence, underscoring the unpredictability and fragility of such public gatherings.

The Kansas City police have yet to disclose motives or detailed information regarding the alleged shooters, leaving many questions unanswered. However, the bravery of the Filters and their fellow Chiefs fan shows has become a beacon of hope and courage amidst the tragedy.
