Grammy-winning country singer Naomi Judd passed away at the age of 76,  her daughters Wynonna and Ashley said.

The Judd sisters confirmed their mother’s death in a statement on Saturday which reads, “Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness.” It continues to say, “We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”

According to TMZ, Naomi Judd was very open about her mental health battles which include depression throughout the years. She and Wynonna also had an estranged relationship but they recently reconciled and plan to go on a cross-country tour, their first tour in a decade. They were also set to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on May 1.

The Judd mother-daughter singing duo formed their group in 1983 and launched a successful career in the country music scene from 1985 to 1992, releasing six albums, and 20 hit singles. Throughout their career, they won five Grammy awards.

Although disbanding in the early ’90s, the women went on to have successful solo careers and Naomi appeared on television for cameo appearances. She also starred in various films such as “An Evergreen Christmas”, “Someone Like You…”, “A Holiday Romance,” “The Family Tree”, and “Newlyweds.”

Fans react to the country singer’s untimely passing

After learning the news of Naomi’s death, fans expressed their condolences toward Wynonna and Ashley.

The singer is survived by her daughters and husband, Larry Strickland.
