Indiana Sheriff Sued By 28 Women After Male Correctional Officer Is Charged With Facilitating Rape

Since Lowe was charged, at least 28 women incarcerated have filed federal civil rights lawsuits alleging that they were attacked, harassed and sexually assaulted at the southern Indiana jail.

It is also reported that additional women are set to join the case and the other plaintiffs.

Now, according to one complaint, “multiple female inmates of the Clark County Jail” say they were subjected to “a night of terror.”

They further alleged that they were brutally attacked by masked male inmates “for multiple hours” on the night of October 24, 2021.

They claim that CO David Lowe, who has since been fired, provided access to their housing units by way of selling a key for $1,000 to male inmates.

The first complaint filed last month, also says that “as a direct and proximate cause of the actions of Defendants, [the female inmates] suffered horrific physical and psychological injuries.”

Besides the CO, the suit also lists several currently unidentified members of the sheriff’s department.

However, the plaintiffs and their attorney, William McCall, have individually and professionally named Sheriff Jamey Noel as the lead defendant in their initial lawsuit.

More Lawsuits Surface Against Indiana Sheriff After Male Correctional Officer Is Charged With Facilitating Rape

Another lawsuit has since been filed on Monday (July 25.) and claims the incident began on October 23, 2021 and carried into the early morning hours of the 24th. The complaint says the incident resulted in “significant physical and emotional injuries.”

The newer lawsuit also says: “Amazingly, even though there were surveillance cameras positioned in locations that showed the male detainees accessing the woman’s Pods, and even though the incident involved multiple male detainees and dozens of victims over an extended period of time, not a single jail officer on duty that night came to the of Plaintiffs and the other victims.”

Now attorney William McCall, who is currently representing some of the alleged victims, stated that the only reason the attacks have come to light is because of one brave woman, who is a part of the lawsuit.

McCall stated that the woman complained about the attack and was then moved to a different jail. It is also reported that she soon become pregnant as a result of being raped on the night of the incident; however, she later miscarried after she bonded out of custody.

Attorney McCall further noted that most of the female inmates weren’t able to escape the jail and were left “cowering under bunks” or “hiding in bathrooms.”
