Conor McGregor underwent a three-and-a-half-hour surgery a day after his injuring his leg during his match with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

The UFC superstar received treatment at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles and went into surgery this afternoon. Doctors inserted a rod in his tibia along with plates and screws in his fibula. According to TMZ, the surgery went very well and McGregor is expected to be released on Tuesday or Wednesday.

On Saturday, McGregor lost to Poirier at the end of round 1 when he attempted to place his foot down on the mat, and his left leg bent above his ankle. During a post-match interview, Poirier assumed that McGregor’s injury happened after he threw a leg kick but McGregor has denied that claim.

He was taken out of the match on a stretcher and told Joe Rogan that he could finish the fight outside if he wanted to.
“This is not over. If I have to take this outside, I’ll take this outside.”
