The 26-year-old actor now tell Vogue he first met his wife in the sixth grade at Emerson Middle School in Los Angles, California.

Recalling the first time he saw her, Scribner said, “I remember seeing her during one of our lunches over at the benches, thinking, Who is that?” He admitted to being shy and too nervous to ask her out, but they ended up bumping into each other often because they had mutual friends. Globerman said:

“Not many people look back fondly on their middle school days, but we both joke that those three years were our peak. Our archive consists of pictures of us trick-or-treating together, partying at Marcus’ iconic Halloween parties, and me absolutely towering over him at graduation.”

Marcus Scribner And Wife Gracie Globerman Recall First Time They Met In Middle School

While Scribner filmed for ‘Black-ish’ during high school, he lost touch with his middle school crush. However, the two later reconnected during their senior year of high school. They both ended up at their former middle school for a mentoring day. Scribner recalled, “I saw her there and knew it was fate. I could finally grow a full mustache. I was feeling confident.”

Despite Scribner’s newfound facial hair and confidence, Globerman was already in a relationship with another guy. He joked, “So, the long game continued. As soon as my homie hit me and told me they broke up, I sprang into action. The rest is history.”

Fast forward to August 30, 2025 when Scribner proposed to Globerman. He got on one knee at an arboretum in Davis, California — the city where Globerman went to college. Scribner said it was also the place where he became “an honor alum (in [his] heart)” because he was up there every weekend while she was in school.

Marcus Scribner And Wife Gracie Globerman Talk Proposal And Wedding

Recalling the plans for the proposal, Scribner said he planned a 48-hour trip to Globerman’s college hometown to spend their anniversary. The two had lived in New York, but Scribner was staying in Toronto filming for most of the year. Despite it being a quick trip, Globerman said she “had a feeling and knew what he was up to.” She added:

“My suspicions were confirmed when he told me to pack something fancy for our 9 a.m. picnic in the arboretum… nothing about Davis is fancy, but I couldn’t be more excited!”

After picking up deep-fried corn dogs at a farmer’s market, they headed to a picnic setup by their friends. Scribner recalled getting on one knee and “looking up at the most amazing person in the world.” He asked her to marry him and she said yes. Globerman said, “This would forever add a new level of meaning, a new reason to come back, a new reason to tell our future kids that Davis is the happiest place in the world.”

While brainstorming on their wedding destination, the New York-based couple said their LA hometown “was important” to them, along with the iconic restaurant République. Globerman explained:

“It was important to us to give all of our living grandparents an opportunity to see their first grandchildren get married. The lazy girl in me was also excited that a restaurant means everything is there—so no rentals, it’s already staffed with experts, and did I mention we knew the food would be incredible.”

By May 9, 2026 they were officially married, and finally publicly announced their nuptials in Vogue’s August weddings issue.
