Comedian D. L. Hughley Weighs In On The Latest Arrests Of Rappers: “If you call yourself #Thug and #Gunna, what you probably gonna do is go to jail!”
Young Thug and Gunna are currently sitting in the slammer as they both face charges of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
As we previously reported online, jail records show that Young Thug was arrested on May 9 in Atlanta on Georgia state charges of participation in street gang activity and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. His arrest is the result of a larger grand jury indictment that names 28 members and associates of his label and imprint YSL (aka Young Slime Life.) Fellow rapper, Gunna, was among the names listed in the 56-count indictment. He is also charged with conspiring to violate RICO.

Gunna officially surrenders to police around 2 AM this Wednesday. While fans continue to react to the developing news, a few celebrities are weighing in. Rapper 21 Savage appeared to be heartbroken by the situation as he shared a 💔 emoji this morning on Twitter. New York rapper Fivio Foreign also tweeted, “Free Gunna Thugga Dem.” However, it appears that comedian had different feelings about the situation. He posted a message that read, “People seem to forget, the power of life and death is in the tongue! If you call yourself #Thug and #Gunna what you probably gonna do is go to jail. #TeamDl.”

To make matters worse, both MCs have been accused of possession and intent to sell a variety of narcotics, receiving stolen property, as well as general street gang activity. They were also alleged to have been involved in a bunch of crimes, including the attempted murder of rapper YFN Lucci, with their alleged gang, YSL.
Speaking to WSB-TV, Thug’s attorneys Brian Steel maintained his client’s innocence. “I’ll tell you the response to any allegation; Mr. Williams committed no crime whatsoever,” Steel said. “And we will fight to my last drop of blood to clear him.” Meanwhile, Gunna is scheduled to make his first court appearance this Wednesday. As we previously reported, Fulton County DA Fani Willis said in a press conference Tuesday that gangs in Atlanta were responsible for committing 80% of violent crimes there. Willis believes it’s better to keep Thug and Gunna off the street:
“It does not matter what your notoriety is, what your fame is. If you come to Fulton County, Georgia and you commit crimes and certainly if those crimes are in furtherance of a street gang then you are going to become a target and a focus of this district attorney’s office,” she stated.
