A Colombian couple is going viral after claims surfaced that they named their newborn daughter Chat Yipiti. But according to the country’s National Registry, the unusual name has not been recorded in their official database.
What the National Registry Said
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Colombia’s National Registry said no such name exists in their records.
“After consulting the databases produced and managed by the National Registry, as of today, there is no birth registration under the name ‘Chat Yipiti,’” officials wrote.
They added that they also checked the Sole Notary of Cereté, Córdoba, and still found no evidence of a child with that name.

Can Parents Choose Any Name? Not Always
In Colombia, parents often get creative with baby names, and this isn’t the first time an unusual one has made headlines. However, officials do have the right to prohibit certain names if they believe they could harm a child’s reputation or lead to ridicule. This means even if the parents of “Chat Yipiti” tried to register the name, authorities could have stepped in to deny it.
The controversy has sparked heated discussions online, with many questioning how far parents should be allowed to go when naming their children.
