Michael Alig, known for being one of the original Club Kids in New York City during the late 80s and 90s, has died at the age of 54.

According to TMZ, the club promoter was found unresponsive by a friend in his Washington Heights apartment shortly after midnight on Thursday. Authorities say the former club promotor was surrounded by empty vials and they also found heroin. Alig was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alig is well known for his contribution to the NYC club scene in the 1980s and 1990s where he co-founded the Club Kids. However, his claim to fame came to an end when he killed a drug dealer named Andre “Angel” Martinez and dumped his dismembered body in Staten Island. He served 17 years for the crime and his life became the subject for the 2003 film “Party Monster” starring Macaulay Culkin.

After serving time in prison, Alig was released in 2014. He also had prior arrests in the Bronx for smoking crystal meth in 2017.
