The store in Chesterfield County said they issued empty syringes at a small indoor clinic after several people made appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Carrie Hawes spoke to the local news station WBDJ 7 about the experience and said a manager told her that she actually received a syringe that contained saline after believing she signed up to have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“Talked to a manager right away and they explained that there had been a mistake made – that we had been given saline only. There was no vaccination material. My initial reaction was shock and surprise, and a little anxiety.”

Two hours after she received the call, Hawes returned to have the real vaccine administered and she says she doesn’t want anyone to be swayed away from getting it due to her experience. Kroger said in an official statement that those with appointments the vaccine shortly after the mistake was made.

One of our TLC locations made a mistake and administered empty syringes instead of the COVID-19 vaccine. All impacted customers were contacted and have now received the COVID-19 vaccine. We apologize for this oversight and the inconvenience caused for these customers.
