Desmen Ramsey was sentenced to 18 months in prison at the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Tuesday. According to Cleveland.com, Ramsey received the maximum sentence after pleading guilty to aggravated assault concerning the messages he left to a dumpster company on Oct. 13, 2022. He was initially charged with two counts of complicity.

Ramsey claimed he was intoxicated when he contacted the dumpster company and left messages seeking to hire a hitman to kill his son after the two had an altercation. Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Zach Anderson said Ramsey assumed he was calling a friend, identified as “Jesse”, a motorcycle club member, but contacted Budget Dumpster Company in Westlake. In the messages, Ramsey said he would pay $5,000 for the hit and didn’t “give a f*ck” about his son’s whereabouts.

“It’s a five grand hit on him. I don’t give a f–k where he’s at or what he’s doing or who he be with. Kill that b—h.”

He also left a second message, stating that his friend needed to call him back “ASAP.” The following morning, Ramsey’s voicemails were discovered by the dumpster company’s employees, and they contacted the police with his name and phone number.

Investigators used cellphone tower data to track Ramsey’s cell phone and arrested him. He confessed to leaving the messages and said to himself that he was “headed to jail for a drunken mistake.”

After the hearing, Ramsey was seen walking with a cane and sobbing as deputies escorted him out of the courtroom.

Hiring a hitman is a serious crime in Ohio, and the state has strict laws prohibiting this activity. Under Ohio law, it is illegal to solicit or hire someone to commit murder, regardless of whether the person commits the crime.

The specific law that addresses hiring hitmen in Ohio is Ohio Revised Code Section 2923.01, which makes it illegal to engage in a conspiracy to commit any crime. The law defines conspiracy as an agreement between two or more people to commit a crime, with at least one person taking a step towards carrying out the crime.

If someone is convicted of hiring a hitman in Ohio, they can face severe penalties, including imprisonment and fines. The severity of the penalties will depend on the case’s specific circumstances, such as whether anyone was injured or killed and whether the person who hired the hitman has any prior criminal record.

It is important to note that anyone facing charges related to hiring a hitman should seek the advice of an experienced criminal defense attorney, who can provide guidance on the legal process and help build a strong defense.
