Decorated boxer Claressa Shields recently shared her thoughts on sparring with men and transgender women playing in women’s sports, insisting that no man “will ever fight” her and that transgender athletes “need to build their own little league and fight each other.”
While speaking with DJ Hed and Gina Views on their ‘Effective Immediately’ show, Claressa Shields shared her thoughts on transgender women playing in women’s sports. On the June 26 episode, Gina Views asked The Gwoat, “What are your thoughts on women who aren’t naturally born as women participating in female sports?”
Shields said, “They should go fight against each other. I am not saying that they shouldn’t be able to do sports, because the way that I love boxing… Listen, if you was a man and you go over to a woman and you want to box, you should fight against another man who transitioned and went over and he want to box.”

Shields continued, “And the same thing for the women. Women, if you want to fight, if you want to turn into a man—which you don’t really see that happening—but if a woman wants to transfer to a man, you fight against the men who [did the same thing].”
The boxer concluded, “Y’all go ahead and fight each other. I don’t think that they should be coming into the sport where women and women fight, when men and men fight. They should build their own little league where they fight each other.”
Claressa Shields Talks Sparring With Men: ‘I Tell Guys To Let It Rip’
Claressa Shields later boasted that “a man would never fight her” in a boxing match. She fully said, “A man will never fight against me in a boxing match.” DJ Hed jokingly replied, “I don’t think they want to, though, Claressa.”
Shields continued, “I’m being honest. It’s a lose-lose situation. Because, one, I can really fight, and two, a man is still a man, right? So, I go out there and I hit a man, he’s gonna want to hit me back. It happens in sparring all the time. But, [in] sparring, I tell the guys, ‘Hey, let it rip.’ It’s time to get ready. In sparring, I’m getting ready for a world championship fight. I ain’t got time to be f**king around.”
Shields added:
“[I’ll tell them,] ‘Hey, thank you for coming here. Respect me as a fighter and I’ll respect you as a fighter.’ It’s my job to keep my chin down, protect myself, have my defense, and be in really great shape, and work. I’m a very, very smart fighter. I’m very, very smart. I really have to get ready and I feel like it’s just not fair for me to come in there and say—I don’t even know how to say it—but say, ‘Hey, come here and take it easy on me.’ I can’t even say it. I can’t say it. It’s just not realistic. It’s just like, ‘Hey, thank you for coming here, I appreciate you. Thank you for helping me get ready because what I’m doing is very important to me.’ And a guy who don’t want to hit me inside the ring, I’ll be like, ‘Just go. Leave. I don’t even know what you showed up for.’ Pissing me off.”
