In a new interview, Ciara reveals that after her first date with husband Russell Wilson, she knew that he was not only “the one” for her, but also for her eldest son Future Zahir Wilburn, with whom she shares with ex-fiancé, rapper Future, born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn (note: in November 2022, the rapper revealed he legally changed his last name to Cash).
While recently appearing on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ just months after celebrating her eighth wedding anniversary, Ciara dished about her marriage and first time meeting her God-sent husband, NFL player Russell Wilson. According to Wilson, the couple first met at a Wisconsin basketball game in March 2015. The interaction led the footballer to ask the singer on a dinner date, which was where the sparks began to fly.
In April 2015, the couple went public as they attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner when Wilson was playing for the Seattle Seahawks. About a year before this, Ciara had just given birth to her eldest son Future, now 10.

During her recent interview singer-turned-talk show host Kelly Clarkson asked Ciara how she knew that Russell Wilson would be “good” for her and her eldest son. Ciara simply said, “When you know, you know.” She continued to explain, “From day one, we sat down, we talked. It’s so funny, ’cause we always laugh about the first time we met. We were talking too long and having such a good time and in such great conversation, we forgot to eat.”
Shortly after their first date, Ciara and Wilson shared similar conversations with their friends. As Wilson told a friend of his that Ciara was “the one,” the singer went on to call her best friend and makeup artist, Yolanda Fredrick, whom she calls “Yolie,” and share similar news.
Recalling the post-first date phone call, CiCi said, “I said, ‘Yolie, I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think…’ And she goes, ‘He’s the one?’ And I go, ‘Yes.'” Ciara revealed that she had another confirmation that Russell Wilson was “the one” for her and her eldest son when she introduced Wilson to her baby Future and her father, Carlton Harris, at the same time.
Ciara recalled, “We were all in the house together. My dad was in the living room, Future was crawling on the floor, and there was a silver chair in the kitchen, and it was about to fall. [Russell] legit slid across that kitchen, so smooth, and caught that chair, and I was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ I mean, it was pretty sexy, but it was pretty cute.”

Since their first date and meeting each other’s loved ones, the cute couple went on to get married in July 2016 and have since welcomed three children: son Win Harrison Wilson, 4, and daughters Sienna Princess Wilson, 7, and Amora Princess Wilson, 9 months.
Speaking of her husband and his parenting, Ciara added, “He always has been, since day one, one to jump in and be about that life. He goes to the teacher-parent conferences. He’s into every detail. He’s making sure the sports and gymnastics and everything is lined up.”
