Ciara recently shared more details about her hit song ‘Goodies’ during her guest spot on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

While chatting about the song the artist reflected on how her legendary debut track nearly ended up in the hands of another pop sensation—Britney Spears. “I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears,” Ciara said. She added that she knows Britney wasn’t the one who was actually trying to steal her hit record. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney.”

Ciara explained how she recognized that she was a new artist in the game and Britney was a mega star so she understood why someone else wanted Britney to have the track. “That song was my baby. ‘Goodies’ is where everything began for me,” she said, reflecting on how pivotal the track was to her career.

Ciara first revealed this news on her radio show ‘Level Up With Ciara’ and spoke about the power of having your own record label.

When I had this record, I knew that it was a very, very special record,” she says. “And I worked so hard on this record and this industry can sometimes bring you incredible challenges, hence why I love the power of having my own record label.”

“[I] had this record, but not knowing that behind the scenes, there was a conversation about this song being potentially taken from me and given to an artist like Britney Spears, who was on the same roster as me,” she explains. “I learned about the story later, but the crazy thing for me is that if I would’ve known about it then, I would have fought tooth and nail.”

The 2004 hit spent seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, marking the longest-running debut single by a female artist in almost three decades.
