An Oklahoma girl was suspended from her school after she told a classmate that she had a crush on her during recess earlier this month.

The Rejoice Christian School suspended 8-year-old Chloe Shelton after making the statement. Her mother Delanie said they met with the school’s vice-principal where she explained to Chloe that the Bible says she can only marry a man and have kids with a man. Delanie said her daughter cried during the meeting and questioned if God still loved her. The administrator also asked how did Delanie feel about two girls liking each other to which she replied ‘I said if we’re being honest, I think it’s okay for girls to like girls and she looked shocked and appalled.’
Later that week, the school contacted Delanie and said that they will be removing both of her children from the school. She questioned their decision and states the administration claimed her family’s beliefs affected her children’s education.
“I asked for specifics, to which I was told that my “beliefs” do not line up with theirs. I asked him to have a sit down meeting with our family to which he refused and said there was “nothing more to be discussed.”

Although the school claims there’s a rule in their handbook that prohibits romantic relationships on school grounds, it does not mention suspension. Since then, Chloe has been transferred to a new school.
