The Oscars Slap & Will’s Consequences
Nearly a month ago, the Chris and Will confrontation went down at the 2022 Oscars and set the internet on fire for weeks to come. Will eventually apologized to Chris, but only after the Academy of Motion Pictures condemned him and threatened to revoke his ‘King Richard’ Best Actor award and remove him from the Academy.
Will would go on to formally resign from the Academy of Motion Pictures, keeping his award. After board meetings held by the Academy’s executives, they then went on to ban Will from all events and nominations for the next ten years.
Chris Rock’s Supportive Family & Friends
Chris remained silent while his brother Tony Rock slammed Will and his wife Jada at his own comedy show in Raleigh, North Carolina. Meanwhile, another Rock brother, Kenny, spoke out in his brother’s defense as well.
Chris also received support from fellow comedian and actor Adam Sandler, who simply reposted Chris’ comedy tour promo and said, “Love you Buddy.” Another comedian and actor Jim Carrey voiced his support as well. Meanwhile Marlon Wayans remained confident that the two men would make amends, citing “Will’s going through something.”

Rose Rock Breaks Silence
Now, Chris’ mother, Rose Rock, is opening up about the slap heard around the world, involving her son. She tells WIS 10 News, “[Chris] is doing well. Like he said, he’s still processing it, because that’s not something you expect. But my thing is, at the moment—and I told him, ‘You were standing squarely on the shoulders on Sidney Poitier—because that’s someone who we all look up to.”
Ms. Rock goes on to say, “I told someone, ‘When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us. But, he really slapped me. Because when you hurt my child, you hurt me.” Ms. Rock explains she’s never met Will, despite her other son Tony working him on the set of the TV show ‘All of Us.’
If Ms. Rock could face Will and say anything to him, she says she’d say, “What in the world were you thinking? Because you did a slap, but so many things could’ve happened from that. Chris could’ve stepped back and fallen. You really could’ve got taken out in handcuffs. You didn’t think. You reacted to your wife’s giving you the side-eye and you went up and you made her day. Because she was bold over laughing when it happened.”
Ms. Rock says she, like a good portion of the audience in-person and at-home, thought it was staged. But after Will continued throwing obscenities at Chris on stage, she knew something else was up.
