Does Chris Rock have an obsession with Jada Pinkett-Smith? A new report via PEOPLE claims that the infamous Oscars incident last year, where Chris had made somewhat of an inappropriate joke about Jada’s buzz cut, wasn’t the first time the “Death At A Funeral” star has poked fun at Will Smith’s wife, alleging that Chris’ obsession dates back to almost 30 years.
As we previously reported, the South Carolina native, who has frequently worked with Jada on a handful of films, addressed the viral moment when Will slapped him across during his stand-up special, “Selective Outrage.” But a good portion of the segment seemed more concerned about the couple’s marriage as he repeatedly referred to Jada as a “b****.”

The publication notes that the comedy show just so happened to be filmed in Jada’s hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, and while this may be nothing more than a coincidence, given Chris’ history with jokes aimed at the mother of two, sources say Jada lives rent free in the comedian’s mind and it’s apparently starting to show. “Jada has had no part in all of this other than being heckled,” the insider claimed. “Chris is obsessed with her and that’s been going on for almost 30 years. Look where he chose to film his Netflix special. Obsessed.”
Prior to joking about Jada’s buzz cut at last year’s Oscars, despite the actress having previously revealed she’s been battling alopecia since 2018, Chris had also made fun of her when he hosted the Oscars in 2016. A number of Black celebrities, including the Smiths, had boycotted the awards ceremony for its lack of diversity that year after all of its major categories were predominantly dominated by white actors.
Will, who had received rave reviews for his role in the film “Concussion,” was surprisingly snubbed for the Best Actor nomination, prompting Jada to speak out as part of the #OscarsSoWhite movement. During his opening monologue, however, Chris said, “Jada got mad, said she’s not coming. Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s p*nties. I wasn’t invited.”
The “Everybody Hates Chris” star then continued by making a slight dig aimed at Will, who hadn’t been acknowledged by the Academy. “It’s not fair that Will was this good and didn’t get nominated. It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West,” he quipped.
Chris Rock said that Jada Pinkett Smith hurt Will Smith “way more” than the slap hurt him.

And during his Netflix special last week, Chris inaccurately explained to the audience how Jada had told him not to host the Oscars and stand behind Will who should’ve been recognized for his motion picture, saying, “His wife said I should quit the Oscars. I shouldn’t host ’cause her man didn’t get nominated for Concussion. And then he gives me a f–––ing concussion.”
Per PEOPLE, Jada never requested for him not to host the show. In fact, in a post shared on Facebook at the time, the “Red Table Talk” host actually said that Chris would be the ideal person to take on the role, adding that she was sure he’d do a good job.
Jada and Chris both starred in the “Madagascar” franchise, appearing in a total of three films together between 2005 and 2012. Jada is also credited to have made an appearance on the ‘90s comedy series, “The Chris Rock Show,” which ran from 1997 to 2000.
