A man who was staying in a Tibetan hotel initially thought it was his feet that had caused the terrible stench inside his room until he discovered there was a dead body underneath his bed. The Chinese man, simply known as Mr. Zhang, had checked in at the Guzang Shuhua Inn, which has become very popular for its colorful backdrops, ideal for social media photos.
After arriving on April 21, Zhang, per BBC News, entered his room and had already noticed a distinct smell. He didn’t make anything of it at the time and took himself to bed for a three-hour nap before heading out again. When he returned to his room several hours later, Zhang noticed the smell yet again and started questioning himself where it was coming from, having initially assumed it was the bakery downstairs, the heating system, or even his feet.

He proceed by complaining to the staff, who issued him with a new room while they investigated the matter. That same night, he was informed that a dead body was found underneath the bed of the room he had vacated. Law enforcement officials assured him he had nothing to worry about as he was not considered a suspect in the person’s death. Apparently, somebody had already been arrested in connection to the incident while on a train that was headed to Lanzhou city.
The reason why Zhang decided to speak out about the scary ordeal to the media was that he was initially made to believe that the smell inside his room was nothing he should have been concerned about.
The hotel staff was accused of denying that there may have been a problem with the room and allegedly acted as if everything was fine without taking the right measures to inspect the situation until Zhang demanded to be given a new room due to the unpleasant smell.
“I am very scared and I am still struggling to sleep,” Zhang wrote in a review he left for the hotel, detailing his experience. He went on to tell a local news station, “I wish this sort of thing didn’t happen to me. I don’t need something like this in my life.”

The situation left such a horrible impression on Zhang that he decided to leave Lhasa the following day, traumatized by knowing that he was sleeping while a dead person’s body was right underneath his bed.
It’s unclear whether Zhang is able (or plans) to take legal action against the hotel for negligence and not making sure the room was properly inspected and thoroughly cleaned prior to his check-in.
