According to the Daily Mail, the new ban prohibits government workers from drinking alcohol outside of work hours in order to increase their work performance. Officials reported the new law will help improve the government’s image and prevent workers from making any mistakes. Several regions in China such as Nanjing, Gansu, and Qinghai have enforced the new policy and if workers want to drink during the week, they have to submit an application in advance.

“Except for special circumstances and reporting to relevant departments for approval, drinking is prohibited on working days.”

On the application, the employee must explain why they are drinking and the occasion along with the amount of alcohol being consumed.
