Childish Gambino Sued By Rapper For Allegedly Stealing Grammy Hit ‘This Is America’
A day after celebrating 3 years since its release, it’s reported that Childish Gambino is being sued by another rapper for allegedly stealing his massive Grammy hit “This Is America.” Emelike Nwosuocha, known under his moniker Kidd Wes, is suing Childish, aka Donald Glover, claiming the ‘Atlanta‘ TV series creator and actor straight up jacked his song “Made In America.”
The rapper says Gambino’s “flow” and “lyrics” on his chorus or hook are “unmistakably substantially similar, if not practically identical” to material on his track. For example, Kidd Wes raps: “Made in America / Flex on the radio / Made me a terrorist / Pessimistic n***as / You should just cherish this.” Gambino raps: “This is America / Guns in my area / I got the strap / I gotta carry ’em.”

Now Kidd Wes’ song debuted on SoundCloud in September 2016 and dropped on YouTube months later. He says he was gearing up to make the song his upcoming album’s lead single and had also registered the song with the U.S. Copyright Office in May 2017. As mentioned, Gambino dropped his hit on May 5, 2018 and went on to win Grammy Record of the Year and several other awards and achievements. Kidd Wes believes Gambino intentionally ripped him off and he’s now seeking major damages against Gambino, his co-writers, the record labels behind it (incl: Roc Nation), and also Young Thug, who gave backup vocals.
