Child Molester Serving Life Is Killed In Northern California Prison Cell, Cellmate Segregated Amid Investigation
Deandre Austin, a 46-year-old convicted child molester serving life, was killed in his Northern California prison cell this past week. Amid investigation, his cellmate has been segregated. Officials at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, said on Wednesday they found him unresponsive in his cell and are treating his death as a homicide, adding it’s unclear how he died.
At 6:30 p.m., officials pronounced him dead, less than an hour after correctional officers responded to a “man down” report. As an investigation continues, authorities have since placed Austin’s cellmate and potential suspect, Rodney Jordan, 29, in segregated housing. Jordan is serving a 5-year sentence for second-degree robbery.

Prior to his death, Austin was serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after a court convicted him on a myriad of child sex assault charges of his three elementary school-aged nieces. Some of the charges include: rape, lewd and lascivious conduct, continuous sex abuse, and penetration with a foreign object. Austin had been at the prison since October 2, 2008.
