According to Chicago’s WGN-TV, the woman — whom social media has identified as Romeca Meeks on Facebook — was shot and killed in the 2200 block of South State Street in the South Loop area just after 9 a.m. on Monday morning (September 8).

Chicago Police Department officials say the victim was involved in a physical altercation with another woman when the offender pulled out a gun and fired it. The offender — whom social media identified as Holly Johnson on Facebook — struck the victim in the face.

Meeks was then transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, succumbing to her injuries sustained. Police say they arrested the offender and have her in custody. They also claim the two knew each other.

According to reports on social media, during the fight, Meeks was later restrained by a man — whom social media identified as the two women’s baby daddy, Carlos. On Facebook, he is known as Carlos Losos Way. Witnesses allege he put Meeks in a headlock as his alleged girlfriend/other baby mama, Johnson, allegedly shot her in the face after running to her car for a gun.

Videos of the incident have since gone viral. They also show first responders attempting to save Meeks at the scene of the crime. Also on video, the offender allegedly claimed, “I’m licensed to carry.” The statement not only received criticism at the scene, but online.
